Our weekly #Activate vlog series uses clips from Educe® online courses to illuminate the truth behind the cultural battles of today (and tomorrow) and move Christians from education to action in their communities, churches, and circles of influence.
Amidst all of the hot takes on Playboy magazine tycoon Hugh Hefner’s death, there lies a little-known door Hefner opened that paved the way for pornography to enter our public schools. Illicit images and printed materials certainly didn’t start with Hefner, although the sexual revolution and eroding social mores of the 1960s and 70s helped him largely normalize them. But it was his financing of Planned Parenthood Medical Director Dr. Mary Calderone’s organization, SIECUS, in 1964, that aimed these normalization efforts directly at our children. Today, we know the results of this partnership as “comprehensive sex education.”
As you watch this week’s clip, consider:
- How SIECUS and Planned Parenthood curricula have influenced the progression of sex education, from introducing birth control methods to high school students in the 70s to promoting gender ideology in Kindergarten today
- What influence our pornography-saturated culture has had in growing the sex trafficking and abortion epidemics
- How knowing more about this initial entrance of pornography into our schools can help us create strategies and policies to protect our children
